About
Jane Lear is a Sydney-based contemporary artist living in the Northern Districts of Sydney. With a background in Early Childhood and Primary Education, Jane has always been passionate about nurturing imagination, creativity, self-expression and artistic confidence in people of all ages.
Jane grew up in country NSW in the town of Tamworth and treasures the simplicity and freedom of her childhood there. Ever since she was a small child, she has rarely been without a pencil or paintbrush in hand. One of her earliest memories is sitting in the kitchen pantry with a giant roll of butcher’s paper, scissors and pencils, happily creating handmade books and drawing stories for hours on end. She has always loved drawing, painting and colouring, and that lifelong connection to art and storytelling continues to shape her work today.
Alongside teaching in the classroom, Jane runs her business, Funky Zebra Art Studio, where she hosts weekly art classes, workshops, parties and fundraisers at various locations across Sydney. Through these experiences, she aims to create welcoming and encouraging spaces where children and adults alike can explore art without pressure or perfection.
In recent years, Jane’s focus has expanded to developing her own abstract painting practice, creating vibrant, expressive works that often reflect her faith and celebrate the beauty of God-given imagination and individuality. Her art embraces process over perfection, encouraging freedom, joy and exploration through colour, texture and movement.
Known for her warmth and encouraging nature, Jane is passionate about helping others discover confidence in their artistic abilities, whether they are picking up a paintbrush for the first time or continuing a lifelong artistic journey.
